The Kasese Riverbank Restoration Project
Flooding and soil erosion have long threatened communities in Kasese, Uganda. The degradation of the Nyamugasani and Rwembya riverbanks has led to displacement, loss of fertile land, and environmental instability.
The Kasese Riverbank Restoration Project is working to restore these fragile ecosystems by planting 20,000 native trees, stabilizing the soil, and preventing further land degradation. This effort is more than tree planting—it’s about protecting biodiversity, strengthening climate resilience, and improving community well-being.
In partnership with Greenwatch, FAMU, and The Green Beauty Club, we are driving real change. Led by James Wambale and based at St. Theresa Girls SS, The Green Beauty Club is a student-led group dedicated to conservation and climate action.
On our first site visit, we saw 5,000 potted trees growing in nursery beds, supported by the Kenneth Kakuru Earth Reboot Initiative.
We also witnessed the serious impact of riverbank degradation on local communities, reinforcing the urgency of this project.
